Most mornings I walk part of the property. Today was woods day. Melissa and I ventured into this southern section of the land once when we first moved in. But, nobody has been back there since. I wandered into the tall trees wondering, “what’s really back there?”
Old properties have a past. With each walk around the land, we learn more about the past at Six Michigan Acres. What happened here during decades long gone discloses itself through discoveries and findings daily. Today, we came upon a picnic table.
Michigan weeds make maintaining good looking landscapes tough. At Six Michigan Acres we like to limit the use of plant killing chemicals… which means harvesting unwanted growth by hand.
To avoid hours of this manual time-consuming massacred while still removing unwanted weeds, we use a time-tested tool: the hula ho.
With the move complete and unpacking well underway, I need to learn the property layout. So, I begin most mornings by walking the perimeter and making mental notes of the many improvements to be made one day. Sometimes Melissa comes along. Sometimes Alex joins me (us) via. backpack. Pressed coffee always accompanies the walk!
