Most mornings I walk part of the property. Today was woods day. Melissa and I ventured into this southern section of the land once when we first moved in. But, nobody has been back there since. I wandered into the tall trees wondering, “what’s really back there?”
Finding the property lines has been a mental priority. I hiked back to where the general boundaries might be and found a few ribbons tied to trees. The location of these markers made sense. Close enough for now… but soon we’ll want an official survey. Fall project.
An odd shape caught my eye while walking. After a short stint off the non-existent trail, I came upon an old tree house. Far from safe now, it looked like a real getaway from decades ago. We’ll make something of this… someday.
Various trees line the land. I bought a tree book (amazon affiliate link) last week, but forgot to bring it with me on today’s walk. Next time. Until then, this white bark makes identifying birch trees easy. Birch is useful for fires (it has a high calorific value per units of weight and volume), building waterproof items like canoes & bowls, and building a famous airplane, the Howard Hughes H4 Hercules aka “The Spruce Goose.”
All kinds of opportunity exists in the woods at Six Michigan Acres. But, proper development demands a defined goal. We’ll aim for minimal man-made influence with inviting trails, seclusion spots, and anything that adds value to the nature of it all.
